“We’ve got to try and find some consistency”

Joint manager Tony Fawcett was struggling to account for his side’s poor display which led to a 3-1 home defeat by Thornaby.  “We’re really frustrated to be honest. We felt we played well in the first half, we had one or two (shots) cleared off the line, we thought we could have been ahead quite comfortably and we thought it was going to go quite well, but once we’ve conceded the penalty, we’ve lost our desire. We moved it around well, we kept it well enough but we didn’t really threaten. There was no pace to it and we’re really disappointed to be honest.

“It has to be the minimum that you give everything you’ve got and tonight we’ve been done a couple of times for just switching off and not working hard. For their second goal we’ve lost the ball and then instead of pressing them we’ve just let them have the ball and they just turned it around too easily; and the third one, they had a throw in and no defender was within ten yards of him. That’s not ok, it’s not ok to perform like that.

“Yes, we’ve started well. We’ve made a few changes to keep everyone (involved) in the team and the team started well, some good football, some quality football. We probably should have been 2 or 3 up and when we conceded the penalty it’s a blow. We’d just talked about it before the game about not diving in, staying on our feet but we’ve given one away again and it’s really frustrating, so we’re really disappointed.

“We’ve got to try and find some consistency. It’s no good getting one or two good wins, we need to find more of a rhythm. Is it because we’re a new squad? Maybe. But is it acceptable? Definitely not. We’ve got to perform better than we have tonight.”
