Whitley began their pre-season fixtures with a comfortable 4-0 victory away to Northern Alliance Premier Division side Seaton Delaval. Whitley made the best possible start, taking the lead after just 25 seconds thanks to a close range finish from Kyle Patton. Tom Potter got the second ten minutes later with a tremendous shot into the top corner from the edge of the box. Patton got his second of the game in the 16th minute, another close range effort and Thibault Charmey’s delightful back heeled flick made it 4-0 seven minutes before half time.
Whitley made a series of substitutions in the second half and remained in control with one effort crashing off the bar but they were denied further goals thanks in part to some good saves from the Delaval keeper. Tom Flynn made a one-on-one save to thwart a rare Delaval attack but other than that the Bay keeper had a fairly quiet game.
Marc Nash included both new signings, Michael Hall and Matthew Cornish in the squad for the game, with several reserve team players used as subs, including the returning Graham Williams.
Starting eleven: Tom Flynn, Jack Byerley, Michael Hall, Ross Wilkinson, Callum Anderson, Aiden Haley, Tom Potter, Thibault Charmey, Kyle Patton, Alex Kempster, Peter Ravenhill. Second half substitutes: Matthew Cornish, A Trialist, Regan Paterson, Mackenzie Sharpe, Cam Cunningham, Carl Collins, Graham Williams.
