Naturally delighted after Saturday’s victory, Marc Nash highlighted his team’s improved defending and looked forward to the return of three key players following injury. “It’s nice to get that winning feeling back and the final result was fully deserved. We started the game a little tentatively and our passing let us down a little but once we scored you could see the boost in confidence from everyone. We played some great football after we took the lead and the second goal from Tom Potter was a superb team goal. Our defending was much improved and that gave our front four the platform to take the game to Benfield and we caused them lots of problems. The lads managed the second half very well with Peter Ravenhill, Kempster and Potter at the heart of everything creating chances. Peter hit the bar with a great effort and when Jasper’s header also rebounded of the frame of the goal thankfully Alex has reacted to put in the rebound as I thought luck was starting to desert us again. On another day Alex could have scored four but their keeper made two great saves from him. Liam Brooks made an immediate impact after coming on when he assisted Thibault making it 4-0. If I have any criticism it would be the way we took our foot off the gas after Brayson’s consolation. We stopped tackling and doing the basics and although the game was won it would have been poor on our part if the scoreline was closer but we held out for a good three points.
Seeing Ross and Callum training and hearing Andy had scored for the Reserves means competition for places is about to ramp up and that’s not a position we’ve been in for a while.”
