Marc Nash felt that Whitley’s dramatic FA Vase tie at Billingham Synthonia need not have gone to extra time “I thought we had the opportunities to win the tie in 90 minutes and they scored with their only shot of the second half up until that point. We were in total control but it was not to be and like the league match down there, we had to come from behind again. You could say we shouldn’t really get into that position or you could also say we are a team that’s difficult to beat and that’s proven by the great spirit and resilience we are showing. The FA Vase is a competition that the club have endured so much success in of late and I think everyone is keen on a run deep into the competition this season.
We worked their keeper so much albeit some straight forward saves but also some great ones like the save from Matty Cornish seconds before we went behind right on halfway in Extra Time. We had 15 minutes to rescue the tie so we put Liam Brooks on and sacrificed a defender to go three at the back. It’s taken us only two minutes to equalise and then we poured forward showing great intent to settle the match and the pressure was building up and we were clearly denied a last minute penalty for a foul on Kyle Patton but it wasn’t given so we go again on Tuesday.”
