Manager’s comments on Newton Aycliffe game

It’s fair to say we may have let 2 points slip but when conditions were as bad as they were sometimes you have to just praise the performance of the team and I thought we were excellent after a slow start. We seem to play so much better against the wind and yesterday was no exception. Even before their red card we were controlling the game but some missed chances have proved costly. Newton Aycliffe had the better of the early exchanges but we’ve got the quality to just create from nothing and goal was from a great move and a superb finish by Tom. What was very disappointing was letting them straight back into the game. Yes the finish from their lad we good but our defending left a lot to be desired and it was an immediate set back. People may have feared the worst going into the 2nd half against such a strong wind but we got it down and passed it pretty well. Not forgetting early in the half Dan Lister has made two outstanding saves but from then on it was us pressing for the winner. Alex should have scored a header and Jasper was distraught afterwards because of his miss but he’s game as anything so I’ve got no complaints with him. Then Josh burst through but couldn’t repeat the composure he showed when scoring last Saturday. We seem to be handing debuts out nearly every game such is the poor situation with fitness but I though young Ryan Hucks dug in and battled away nearly helping us to a win.

We’ll regroup for yet another midweek game and we are assessing more injuries again but we can stay positive and go to Jarrow looking for 3 points.
