Manager Andy Gowens felt that Whitley’s performance against West Auckland was better than the final score would suggest, but acknowledged that his side had not taken their chances. “It was frustrating really. I think we deserved something out of the game. People might look at the result and think it was comfortable for them but it wasn’t a 2-0 game really. There were two quality finishes by Nathan Fisher but we created more chances than them, definitely. In the second half I think we were probably the better side. Both goals came from us making silly mistakes, giving the ball away. With the effort they all put in and the amount of chances we created, we could have won the game but unfortunately that hasn’t happened. Their goalkeeper did well and kept a clean sheet but we didn’t take our chances. We definitely look stronger at the back now; it’s starting to gel now at the back with having two experienced players there, Ibby and Gavin. I though Jack Cooper did well as well today and Adam’s learning as well.
It’s a great plus having Stephen Ramsey back from injury, he doesn’t look as if he’s suffered any reaction so let’s hope he keeps fit. It’ll be good having the competition for places all through the side.”
