“It was a fantastic result and performance”

Whitley’s 5-2 victory at Stockton Town which ended the Teessiders’ impressive winning run and surprised some Bay fans, clearly delighted the management team, as Marc Nash enthused after the game.  “It was fantastic result and performance against the league’s in form team. We said before the game that it would be a tough place to get points but that we have more than enough to end any team’s run because of the quality we have in the squad. We were confident because the playing surface suited us and allowed us to play our fluent football and our counter attacking was exceptional. Matty scored the opener and it’s as good as you’ll see in terms of a fast break and excellent finish on the volley. Callum Johnston showed his quality and he’s getting an understanding very quickly with his teammates as he knew exactly the type of run to make when Potter has cut inside and provided a sublime through ball. The goal we conceded to let them back into the game was very disappointing and I was annoyed we’d given them a lift because we were on top and it was a long throw that should have been dealt with. I challenged the players at half time that if were to lose what was a two goal lead then we’d have to show massive character to try and go on and win the game as Stockton, in their form, would feel they could beat anyone. That’s exactly how it panned out as we’ve conceded after losing possession in midfield but then after surviving another chance when Tom has made the save of the match we went through the gears scoring three times to take the points. We are so good to watch at times and we’ve made them run quite a bit by keeping possession and that’s paid off in the last twenty minutes as we totally dominated and put the game beyond doubt. There was so many positive performances and more importantly we’ve bounced back after the defeat last week. Our away form is excellent but hopefully we can reproduce it in the League Cup at home on Tuesday.”
