Manager Nathan Haslam said there was a lack of quality in Whitley’s performance at Penrith, where they slipped to a 2-0 defeat. “It didn’t go to plan to be fair, it was a toothless performance and their keeper hasn’t had a save to make today. They had two attacks and scored from two attacks. I don’t think any team deserved to win it; it was a poor game in terms of quality. But fair play to them, they out-battled us and looked fitter than us. It was a disappointing day but it feels like a typical end of season game. We need to be a lot better than that. We’ve had four really positive results followed by three poor results. We went with a 4-3-3 formation today, a totally new back four from last week. The lads have proved inconsistent so I think it would be unfair to say that was the strongest eleven. Whatever team we put out the lads are good enough to go and win a game but there wasn’t just enough quality in our performance today.
“We’ve travelled 80 – 90 miles and brought a good following of supporters and it’s disappointing for them. They should be enjoying every game whatever time of the season it is. We’ve got to be fitter and standards have to be so much higher next season.”
