Whitley make the journey to Newton Aycliffe tonight in search of a place in the Semi Finals of the Mitre Brooks Mileson Memorial League Cup, kick off 7.30pm. This is a rare midweek fixture, the first since the 3-1 victory at Ryhope CW in the 3rd Round of the competition two months ago.
Whitley have already played Aycliffe twice in the league, both games ending 2-2 with Whitley coming from behind to earn a point on each occasion. Should tonight’s game end in a draw after 90 minutes, the tie will go straight to penalties with no extra time being played.
New loan signing Dan Wright is cup tied, having played for tonight’s opponents during a one month spell at Aycliffe before Christmas.
Since our previous two meetings, Newton Aycliffe have had a change of management with former Team Northumbria boss Colin Stromsoy taking over at Moore Lane Park. Since his arrival, the new boss has brought in several players, most recently Bay midfielder Kevin Carr who signed at the weekend but is ineligible tonight as he is cup tied, having played for Whitley in the last round. Half of Kevin’s 21 appearances for the Bay were as a substitute and he was unable to establish a regular starting place in the side. Everyone at Whitley Bay would like to thank Kevin for his contribution to the club and we wish him the best of luck in the future.
For fans unable to make the trip to tonight’s game there will be regular updates on twitter and facebook.
