While obviously pleased to have won the FA Cup tie at Thackley, manager Andy Gowens was not entirely satisfied with the overall performance of his team. “It was one of those games, three nil up and it should have been four with the penalty. You should always score with a free shot at goal. It would have been a different game at 4-0. I wasn’t very happy at half time to be honest. We were a still rather bitty, I know at times we played some really good stuff and opened them up for the three goals and the penalty as well but we didn’t do enough. We weren’t competing for the second ball; we weren’t getting tight or working hard enough in the first half so I wasn’t really happy at half time. Then in the second half we just never got started at all really and then there was a bit of panic when they scored their first goal and after the second one it was a real panic, but we weathered it, we stayed in it and won the game and that’s really what it’s about in cup games. We showed the spirit and game managed it and did enough to win the game. We still had a couple of chances and I thought their keeper played really well. It could have been more if it wasn’t for him, but we shouldn’t let teams back in it like that. It’s always hard once you drop off to get going again because they’ve got the ascendency, they’re getting at you so it’s always more difficult.. but it’s a cup game and we’re through and that’s the main thing. It’s early days, we’re only three games in and it’s still a work in progress.”
Highlighting the performance of goalkeeper Tom Flynn he commented “Tom commanded his box really well and kept us in it with a couple of great saves late in the game.”
