Whitley recorded their second convincing win of pre-season defeating the Royal Marines 6-1 at Hillheads tonight (Wednesday). After goalbound shots from Potter and Wilkinson had been well saved, Whitley went ahead in the 17th minute when a cross from Kyle Patton was converted by one of two trialists in the Bay line up. Tom Potter made it 2-0 four minutes later as Whitley had the better of a well contested first half.
Three goals in a devastating five minute burst just after half time put the result beyond doubt. Potter seized on a mistake to lob the ball over the keeper from a tight angle after 48 minutes. Kyle Patton was tripped while on a mazy run inside the box and brother Callum slotted home the resultant penalty and barely a minute later the trialist striker notched his second of the game to put Whitley 5-0 ahead. with 17 minutes remaining, the Marines pulled a goal back with a well taken shot but Whitley had the final word when substitute Cam Cunningham smashed the ball into the roof of the net eight minutes from time.
Team: Flynn, Ravenhill, A Trialist 3, Haley, Wilkinson, Hall, Potter, C Patton, A Trialist 9, Kempster, K Patton. second half substitutes: Cunningham, Cornish, Byerley, Anderson, Charmey.
